Aaron Khan, Instruction and Engagement Librarian and faculty member of TSU’s Libraries & Media Centers, and the Special Collections Department are currently in the process of digitizing and preserving a collection of church-based materials gathered by Lois C. McDougald, a former TSU history professor. The materials in this collection consist of a variety of items, such as church histories, newsletters, magazines, religious writings, letter correspondence, and a variety of other items from numerous Black churches in Nashville, Tennessee, and its surrounding areas. While most materials pertain to Black churches in Tennessee, some material in the collection does pertain to other states, like Pennsylvania and New York.

Lois C. McDougald became a faculty member of Tennessee State University’s Department of History and Political Science in 1947. McDougald attended Livingston College, where she received a bachelor's degree in 1943, and Indiana University, where she received her master’s degree in 1945. While at TSU, McDougald participated in various academic affairs. She was a visiting professor at North Carolina A & T State University, an officer, and a member of many different organizations like the Association for the Study of the Afro-American Life and History, the Organization of American Historians, and the Association of Social and Behavioral Sciences. This information can be found in the Lois McDougald Collection, Box One, in the file labeled Lois C. McDougald Correspondence.
