Department of Energy
The United States Department of Energy (DOE) is a cabinet-level department of the United States Government concerned with the United States' policies regarding energy and safety in handling nuclear material. Its responsibilities include the nation's nuclear weapons program, nuclear reactor production for the United States Navy, energy conservation, energy-related research, radioactive waste disposal, and domestic energy production.

Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy
The Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) is a United States government agency tasked with promoting and funding research and development of advanced energy technologies. ARPA-E is modeled after the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency. Like DARPA does for military technology, ARPA-E is intended to fund high-risk, high-reward research involving government labs, private industry, and universities.
Energy Information Administration
The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) is a principal agency of the U.S. Federal Statistical System responsible for collecting, analyzing, and disseminating energy information to promote sound policymaking, efficient markets, and public understanding of energy and its interaction with the economy and the environment. EIA programs cover coal, petroleum, natural gas, electric, renewable, and nuclear energy data. 
Federal Energy Regulatory Commission
The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) regulates the interstate transmission and wholesale sale of electricity and natural gas and regulates the prices of interstate transport of petroleum by pipeline. FERC also reviews proposals to build interstate gas pipelines, gas storage projects, liquefied natural gas terminals, and licensing non-federal hydropower projects.

 

National Nuclear Security Administration
The National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) is a United States federal agency responsible for safeguarding national security through the military application of nuclear science. NNSA maintains and enhances the safety, security, and effectiveness of the U.S. nuclear weapons stockpile; works to reduce the global danger from weapons of mass destruction; provides the United States Navy with safe and effective nuclear propulsion; and responds to nuclear and radiological emergencies in the United States and abroad.
Office of Electricity
The Office of Electricity (OE) is a program office whose mission is to work "closely with [...] private and public partners" and "lead the Department's' efforts to ensure that the Nation's' most critical energy infrastructure is secure and resilient." It does this through research and development of new technologies and overseeing the Federal and state electricity policies and programs for planning and market operations.

 

Office of Science
The Office of Science is the lead federal agency supporting fundamental scientific research for energy and the Nation's most prominent supporter of basic research in the physical sciences. The Office of Science portfolio has two principal thrusts: direct support of scientific research and direct support of the development, construction, and operation of unique, open-access scientific user facilities that are made available for use by external researchers.
