How Do I Get to Special Collections?

Special Collections is located on the east wing of the third floor of the Main Campus Library.


When are you open?

Monday - Thursday: 8:00 a.m.- 4:45 p.m. Friday 8:00 a.m. -  4:15 p.m.

We are closed Saturday, Sunday and all Holidays.


Do I have to make an appointment?

Researchers planning to visit the Archives are encouraged to make an appointment.


Who can use Archives and Special Collections?

Everyone! We’re open to the public, in addition to Tennessee State University students, faculty, and staff.


What should I bring?

It isn't necessary to bring anything. We provide pencils and paper if needed.


How do I order reproductions?

To order reproductions, please contact Michelle Vaughn 615-963-5228 or Lisa Parrish 615-963-5238.


Do you have Wi-Fi?

Yes.


What should I expect on my visit?

When you arrive at Archives & Special Collections, you will be asked to fill out a short patron registration form, as well as look over our Policies and Procedures. If you’ve contacted us ahead of time, you’ll be able to get right to work on the material we’ve pulled for you; otherwise, you can talk to an archivist to help determine what you want to access. An archivist is always on duty to help you with any questions.


Can I bring my class or a group to visit for a tour?

Yes, we ask that you schedule group visits and tours by contacting Ms. Sharon Hull-Smith: 615-963-5219, shull@tnstate.edu

Does the University Archives accept materials from students and student organizations?

Yes, we do. We strongly encouraging giving us a call at 615-963-5228 if you are considering donating materials from students and student organizations.
