"Founded in 1979, the Association of Black Women Historians (ABWH) is a dynamic network of scholars representing every region of the country. The organization's goals are to support black women in the historical profession, disseminate information by, for and about black women and promote scholarship by and about black women. We are relaunching our organization into the 21st century."

Founded in 1915, by Dr. Carter G. Woodson, ASALH originated Negro History Week, which later became African American History Month. Each year the organization issues the Black History Month theme and sponsors a conference.

National Association of African American Studies (http://www.naaas.org/)

This organization is affiliated with several other minority studies associations and aims to serve as resource for scholars.

National Council for Black Studies(http://www.ncbsonline.org/)
