Disability Studies (and related fields)

This guide instructs and informs readers about Disability Studies and presents resources about Disability Studies.

Disability Studies Home

This guide is primarily interested in Disability Studies and related subject areas.

These subject areas include Crip Theory, Critical Disability Studies, DisCrit, Mad Studies, Feminist Disability Studies, and Black Feminist Disability Studies. On each page you will find a definition of the subject and a list of resources available.

Disability Studies has only recently become popular in academic circles, so resource dates vary. Some books and articles may be from the early 2000s and some may be from 2022 or 2023. Some of these subject areas do not have their own individual journals dedicated to them. Each resource has been added to these lists because they are important works within these disciplines.

You may notice that there are many books and articles that can fit under multiple categories - an article may have to do with both Black Feminist Disability Studies and DisCrit, for example. The subject areas in this guide overlap significantly.

Finally, this is not an exhaustive list of resources. There may be other sources that you can access and that tie into one of the subject areas. If you find something you think should be in this guide, please email me.
