Definition of Business Information Systems

Business Information Systems (BIS) is an interdisciplinary field that integrates principles of computer science with the operational needs of businesses and organizations. It focuses on the design, implementation, and application of computer systems and algorithmic processes—including both hardware and software—to support decision-making, efficiency, and strategic goals across various sectors such as corporations, small enterprises, educational institutions, and government agencies.

Information Studies, in a broader context, explores the science of managing information and its digital transmission within societal and organizational frameworks. More specifically, it addresses the technological components of BIS, including databases, application software, and both manual and automated procedures. It also encompasses the computer systems responsible for processing and delivering information effectively.
