I’m Candace Joy Lewis, Head Librarian of Access Services at TSU’s Brown-Daniel Library where I oversee all library circulation staff, services & functions; backup Interlibrary Loan; and act as library liaison to Nursing, Health Information Management & Cardiorespiratory Therapy.
I earned my Master's of Library & Information Studies from UCLA where I established a unique circulating library of +4,000 LGBTQIA resources—grown from a single bookcase—which was dedicated to Rae Lee Sipiron Library before being accessioned into UCLA’s Young Research Library. This work dovetailed into advocating as a Student Affairs Officer for UCLA graduate students of Moving-Image Archive Studies (MIAS) & for all UCLA undergrads navigating their English-Composition requirements.
I also proudly served as the sole Account Executive responsible for fulfilling research, access and licensing orders for every commercial client of world-renowned UCLA Film & TV Archive—work resonating with my earlier experience in documentary-film production for Disney Educational Productions & Philadelphia’s PBS affiliate.
In Philadelphia, I focused on analog video production and cultural studies while earning my Master of Communication Arts from Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Pennsylvania. Previously I earned an Interdisciplinary Bachelor of Arts in Communication and Sociology from the Honors College of University of Delaware where I studied journalism, social movements & media coverage of subcultures.
Outside of academia, my professional experience is an eclectic mix of positions including production editor for peer-reviewed medical & sociological journals; manager of a public-library literacy program; sole researcher for a pharmaceutical media agency; and customer-service representative in industries as diverse as bank branches to emergency-dispatch centers to retail pharmacies.
